At Discovery Cube OC (formerly Discovery Science Center), youngsters’ fantasies may soar and twist through more than 100 hands-on exhibits in the Orange County, California area. Take the Eco-Challenge and transform yourself into a green superhero, experience the power of a real rocket engine “launch,” and delve into the inner workings of a two-story tall dinosaur. The annual Christmas Market is one of the city’s most popular events, attracting visitors from all over the world. Throughout the year, traveling exhibits and recurring activities such as Spooky Science and The Science of Gingerbread keep things interesting.

We’re thrilled to see our Cube pals return to Discovery Cube’s ‘New Cube,’ where families can learn, interact, and experience the science behind everyday activities for the first time,” said Joe Adams, CEO of Discovery Cube. This past year, we were able to improve our facilities and enhance the science experience with all new STEM exhibits and activities thanks to our generous contributors, corporate partners, and state and local governments.

Discovery Cube Orange County and Los Angeles were both extensively remodeled, costing more than $10 million. At each campus, a MERV13 HVAC filtration system with UV lights, COVID-safe standards and practices, and a safe working environment for museum staff and visitors were implemented as part of the “safe science” program.

Winnemucca and Calavera Saloons will continue to expand. Both locations will receive upgrades to the paint, carpet, fixtures, and more. Handicap-accessible restrooms are now available at Winnemucca as well. The facility also has a contactless ticketing system and onsite cleaning staff.

New, state-of-the-art STEM exhibits, immersive science activities, and interactive gameplay for kids K-6 will be part of the reopening. Four new STEM-themed areas with over 15 new interactive experiences will be introduced at the Orange County campus, while Los Angeles will introduce five new themed areas and 10+ new interactive experiences. Inspector Training Course, Early Learners, Planetary Research Station, and other STEM favorites will be on display at both facilities.

Our exhibits are all connected to Next Generation Science Standards. We also developed displays that allow kids to examine the Engineering Design Process as they ask questions, develop ideas, create models, test prototypes, evaluate performance, and then do it all over again in order to improve their design! Tina Rolewicz, Vice President of Education at Discovery Cube added.

“As we welcome teachers and students back to the Cubes for field trips, they may rest confident that their field trip program will meet grade-level requirements as kids have fun interacting with the exhibits.
