Dallas Cattle Drive Sculptures
The Dallas Memorial Garden, or Pioneer Plaza, in downtown Dallas, TX was erected in 1994 as a monument to the city and serves as a symbol for the neighborhood. The Plaza honors Dallastown’s early days by remembering the routes that brought pioneers there. In a natural environment, there is a flowing brook, which is complemented by native plants and trees. The site also features a bronze re-creation of a cattle drive with longhorn steers driven by three cowboys on horses. Robert Summers of Glen Rose, Texas created each piece of bronzed art.
The historic Pioneer Cemetery is located between the historical Pioneer Cemetery and the Dallas Convention Center, which makes it conveniently accessible. The main public space in the city center is Pioneer Plaza, which occupies an area of over 6 acres (2.4 hectares). Pioneer Plaza is located on a 4.2-acre parking lot that formerly served as Dealey Plaza’s primary access point. Pioneer Plaza is the city’s second-most-visited landmark, behind only Dealey Plaza, and attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors each year.
The Plaza, in front of the Dallas Convention Center, depicts a cattle drive with three cowboys and a group of forty longhorn steers. The Plaza’s huge size (larger than real life) has made it the second most popular tourist attraction in downtown Dallas.
The location of the Kennedy assassination, Dealey Plaza, attracts an increasing number of visitors each year. The Plaza is built on a 4.2-acre plot donated by the city of Dallas as part of this magnificent open space. Jack Beckman, Diane Scovell, and Jim Lake spearheaded the fundraising campaign with $4. The concept for Pioneer Plaza began in 1992 and site work began the following year. The Plaza is still a work-in-progress, and more herd leaders will be added as needed to finish the flock. In 1996, the maintenance of the facility was transferred to the Dallas Convention Center. A waterfall, constructed earth cliffs, natural vegetation, and historic details on the sculptures are among other features of Pioneer Plaza.
The Texas Trees Foundation erected Pioneer Plaza in 1995 to honor the City of Dallas and serve as a gathering place for visitors. The plaza remembers Dallas’ foundation by commending the routes that brought pioneers to the city.
